Google Me, "Facebook Killer"?

google me facebook
Facebook's recently-announced Open Graph search feature has been likened to a "Google killer."
But Google may be bringing the fight to Facebook, too.
According to a tweet from Digg founder Kevin Rose, Google is preparing to launch a rival social networking service called "Google Me."
Rose wrote in a tweet:
Ok, umm, huge rumor: Google to launch facebook competitor very soon "Google Me", very credible source
What is Google planning? And how would a new "Facebook competitor" tie in with Google's existing social networking services, Orkut and Google Buzz?
The Next Web speculates that Google might be planning an integration of the two, which could potentially give it an initial user base of 200 million people--already half as big as Facebook, with its 400 million members:
If Google truly is getting into a war with Facebook, and there's no reason to believe that it isn't, then the combination of both Orkut and Buzz would be the obvious choice.
Knowing that a Google account is required to use Orkut, and a Gmail account is required for Buzz, we can safely assume that we're looking at roughly 200 million users to any service that would combine the two. This number could sway one direction or the other, as a Google account does not equate to a Gmail account, but I'd say that 200 million is a solid guess.
Chris Saad speculated in a tweet that the "Facebook killer" referenced by Rose may be an "upgrade" to Google's "Google Profiles" feature. Louis Gray adds, "I don't know if Google Me exists or not. I would not be surprised if it does, but I also would not be surprised if this simply relates to the continued evolution of Profiles, with [Rick Klau, who recently joined the Google Profiles group] and team on watch."

Porn Sites Get Their Own Domain: '.xxx'

.xxx domain approved
Pornography will have its own top-level domain, dot-XXX, the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers decided Friday. The proposal was made under ICANN's rules for "sponsored" TLDs, through which domains have been created by interest groups including the aeronautical industry (dot-aero) and the cooperative movement (dot-coop).
ICM Registry, the company that proposed the dot-XXX domain, welcomed the vote.
"It's been a long time coming," ICM Chairman Stuart Lawley said in a statement, adding that he is "excited" by the move.
"The decision should soon bring to fruition our six-year effort to create a specific Web address for online adult entertainment, and comes on the heels of an independent review that declared that ICANN's previous decision to deny dot-xxx was wrong," he said.
ICM Registry says it is a "completely independent entity with no affiliation, current or historic, with the adult entertainment industry."
That claim of independence gave ICANN board member Rita Rodin Johnston pause for thought. "I still question whether, in fact, there is a real sponsored community here," she said in the board-meeting debate before the vote.
However, she went on to vote in favor of the new domain, saying that despite her personal reservations about the proposal, she felt obliged to by ICANN's decision-making process. "It really doesn't matter what I think. What's important is that ICANN has a process that it set up and the process came back and said that sponsorship criterion was met, and that this board has the courage to follow that criterion," she said.

Mozilla Releases Firefox 3.6.4 with Crash Protection

mozilla firefox 3.6.4 availableToday, Mozilla is happy to release Firefox 3.6.4, the latest security and stability release for Firefox, used by nearly 400 million people around the world to browse the Web. This release provides crash protection for Windows and Linux users by isolating third-party plugins when they crash.
Results from our beta testing show Firefox 3.6.4 will significantly reduce the number of Firefox crashes experienced by users who are watching online videos or playing games. When a plugin crashes or freezes while using Firefox, users can enjoy uninterrupted browsing by simply refreshing the page.
Mozilla recognizes that third-party plugins provide important functionality in many of today’s websites. At the same time, plugins can lead to problems for users as they browse. With the ability to automatically alert users when they have out of date plugins, and now crash protection, Firefox 3.6.4 allows users to experience all the content they love without any of the hassles. (If you’re not running Firefox, Mozilla recommends that you make a habit of visiting the Plugin Check page to keep your plugins up to date.)
At this time Firefox offers crash protection for Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime and Microsoft Silverlight on Windows and Linux computers. Support for other plugins and operating systems will become available in a future Firefox release.
You can download Firefox 3.6.4 on official Mozilla download page.

How To Hide Blogger Widget Title, Since Blogger Not Allow Us To Exclude That Now

Little change on Blogger Page Elements Editor

Two days ago, I intend to slightly change my Blogger template. I want to change some of the views of the widget by modifying that code. As usual, I use the menu Design → Page Elements to change that.
blogger page elements editor

After I finished the editing, I intend to save it. But in fact this is what I get:
blogger page elements error follow us widget

This occurs because "title" field is still empty, though it is a required field. As a side note, Blogger does not like this before! We are allowed to not fill the "title" field. It may sound insignificant, but it is really important. Because sometimes we do not need a title for the widget that we will tide. For example, as I experienced it. At that time I just wanted to put my own widget, which is "follow us" widget. Where will I display the widget with the attribute "fixed", which means it has fixed position, although visitors scrolling the page. And I don't need a title for that!
I found this changes two days ago, but I do not know exactly when Blogger making this change.

New Google Feature - Google Command Line

Google released a new tool to use the service from Google. Unlike usual, this tool uses command-line interface or better known as the CLI (Command Line Interface). Named GoogleCL.
If you don't understand what it is about the CLI, just imagine DOS in Windows OS. That is one example of the CLI. A 'weird' feature according to me personally, where now all use the GUI but Google returned to the CLI. But clearly I believe Google has the exact reason for making this tool.

When this article was written, GoogleCL can be used to google service:
  • Blogger
$ google blogger post --title "foo" "command line posting"
  • Calendar
$ google calendar add "Lunch with Jim at noon tomorrow"
  • Contacts
    $ google contacts list name,email > contacts.csv
  • Docs
$ google docs edit --title "Shopping list"
  • Picasa
$ google picasa create --album "Cat Photos" ~/photos/cats/*.jpg
  • Youtube
$ google youtube post --category Education killer_robots.avi
Please check the official development page site for the last update.
Please visit the official download page to download GoogleCL.
In addition that you may know, I am writing this post using GoogleCL. And if you can read this article, means GoogleCL work well :)
This article sent using GoogleCL and has been edited because of incompatibility with the look of what I want. But in general, GoogleCL can work well.
Additional note, if in the article that you want to upload using GoogleCL have use double quotation marks ("), replace these signs with single quotes (') so GoogleCL can work well.

Adobe Discontinued Flash Player 64 Bits For Linux Project

adobe flashj player I just re-install my laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Linx. When I looking for resources on the internet, I accidentally found out that Adobe has discontinued the Adobe Flash Player 64 bits for Linux project! For the record, I use the AMD Turion 64 processor. So automatically I became intrigued by this news.
After searching on Google, I found the answer in the Adobe Official Website about this notification. Apparently the news was true, but there are also additional note. Adobe discontinued Adobe Flash Player 64 bits for Linux project, but only temporarily. Remember, it's only temporary! As noted in the official announcement:
"We have temporarily closed the Labs program of Flash Player 10 for 64-bit Linux, as we are making significant architectural changes to the 64-bit Linux Flash Player and additional security enhancements. We are fully committed to bringing native 64-bit Flash Player for the desktop by providing native support for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux 64-bit platforms in an upcoming major release of Flash Player. We intend to provide more regular update information on our progress as we continue our work on 64-bit versions of Flash Player. Thank you for your continued help and support. Stay tuned to the Flash Player discussion forum for further announcements."
We do not know what Adobe reason to stop the project. What is clear, of course, just wait we can do.

New Twitter Feature - Twitter Places: More Context For Your Tweets

twitter If you're like everyone at the Twitter office, you're going crazy about the World Cup. When turning to Twitter to keep up with the current game, it helps to know where a Tweet is coming from—is that person watching the game on TV or is he actually in the stadium? To help answer that question, we're excited to announce Twitter Places on twitter.com and mobile.twitter.com. Starting today, you can tag Tweets with specific places, including all World Cup stadiums in South Africa, and create new Twitter Places. You can also click a Twitter Place within a Tweet to see recent Tweets from a particular location. Try it out during the next match—you will be able to see Tweets coming from the stadium.
Several other features of this launch include:
  • Foursquare and Gowalla integration: Many Foursquare and Gowalla users publish check-ins to Twitter. Location is a key component of these Tweets, so we worked closely with both companies to associate a Twitter Place with Tweets generated by these services. This means that if you click on a Twitter Place, such as "Ritual Roasters," you will see standard Tweets and check-ins from Foursquare and Gowalla.
  • API: We are releasing API functionality that lets developers integrate Twitter Places into their applications.
  • Support for more browsers: Now, you can add location to your Tweets from any browser—Safari and Internet Explorer, in addition to Chrome or Firefox.

Over the next week, we will roll this out to users in 65 countries around the world, so keep an eye out for the "Add your location" link below the Tweet box. This is possible thanks to key data partnerships with TomTom and Localeze. We are also working to bring Twitter Places to our other mobile applications, including Twitter for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry. Follow @geo for geo-specific updates, and check our Help Center to learn how to use Twitter Places.

Notes : The word "we" in this post refers to Twitter, because this post is taken directly from the official Twitter blog.

New Facebook Feature - Facebook "Like" Button For Comments

facebook Are ye already conscious? If now we can "like" comments facebook us! Of course, is an innovation that is very good, in my opinion personally. In this way, we can respond to the person who commented that good. So that is a tribute to its own course.
In addition, when you click ‘Like’ on a comment the commenter will receive a notification. Other people who can see the comment based on its privacy setting also will be able to see who has liked the comment.
It's so much innovation that provided facebook. Very interesting certainly for developers. We just wait, what innovations from facebook next. What is clear, I personally really liked facebook because innovation. We'll see later.

Adobe Knocks Apple For Serving Up Outdated Flash Player

apple macintosh Apple on Tuesday patched 28 vulnerabilities in is Snow Leopard operating system, including two in Adobe's Flash Player.
But in another example of the tension between the two companies -- sparked by Apple CEO Steve Jobs' rejection of Flash as slow, buggy and obsolete -- Adobe immediately countered by noting that Apple's Flash fixes were already outdated.
"10.6.4 update for Mac OS X includes Flash Player, but not the latest version," said Brad Arkin, Adobe's director of security and privacy, in a message on Twitter Tuesday shortly after Apple issued the security and performance update.
Others at Adobe chimed in yesterday that Apple shipped the outdated Flash Player 10.0.45.2 with Mac OS X 10.6.4, and like Arkin, urged Mac users to download a newer edition directly from Adobe's site.
Adobe patched a pair of bugs in Flash Player 10.0.45.2 for Mac and Windows in February 2010. The newest edition of the popular media player is 10.1.53.64, a 32-patch update Adobe shipped June 10, in part to fix a zero-day flaw that hackers have been exploiting since earlier this month.
It's not unusual for Apple to lag behind Adobe in releasing Flash Player patches to its users. Apple, unlike Microsoft, handles the distribution of Flash Player updates for its users, bundling them into its OS updates.
This was only the second time that Adobe has called out Apple over including an outdated version of Flash Player with Mac OS X, according to reviews of Adobe's security blog.

How To Add Custom Font To Blogger (Like This Blog Header Font)

Adding Custom Fonts to Blogger can improve the look and feel of your blog. Before getting into font embedding lets know how this works. In your templates you can use any font you want, but these would be properly displayed only if the viewer has those fonts installed on his/her System. Font embedding Techniques allows you to use any font on your Blog and these fonts will be viewable to the viewers even if they don’t have the font installed on their Systems. @font-face is the best Font Embedding technique in my opinion but it wont easily work with externally uploaded fonts unless the server has special Access Control Headers for your blog .(blogger wont allow you to upload the font to it’s servers :) So here are certain simple alternative methods to add custom fonts to your blog. These are listed out in an order of my preference :
  1. Google Font API
  2. Kernest Font API
  3. Cufon JavaScript Font Embedding

1. Google Fonts API.

This is the best and robust method to add custom fonts to your blogger blog. It uses the @font-face technique but you needn’t worry about the backend things. You can see a list of available Fonts at the Google Font Directory . When you select a particular Font, Google will provide you with the Embed Code which looks like
image
<link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=FontName' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>

Copy out this code and you have to modify it by changing > at the end of the code to /> That is you have to change the code to something like
<link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=FontName' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'/>

Jose Chess Game

Looking for a good chess game software? I have a suggestion for you, Jose!
Jose, a chess software. In my opinion, this is the best chess software that I use on my computer. Created using JAVA programming language, so it can run in any OS that has Java Runtime Environment installed.

Features

  • graphical frontend to MySQL database
  • read and write PGN (Portable Game Notations) files
  • 2D and 3D view
  • edit games, insert comments, variations
  • plug-in chess engine for play and analysis; supports both XBoard and UCI protocol.
  • Play Fischer Random Chess / Chess 960, or Shuffle Chess
  • Opening Books
  • ECO opening classification
  • Position Search
  • Create HTML and PDF files.
  • Web Servlet interface
You can download Jose here. There are also many other additional downloads such as sample databases, opening books, bonus textures and sound files.
Another excellent feature on Jose, you can install other chess engines as plug-in. Jose is packaged with the Toga and Spike chess engines. However, there is a huge number of freely available-and commercial-engines that also can be used with jose.
My last suggestion, for you who love the game of chess must try this software.
