[How To]Fix Suspend / Hibernate Problem on Ubuntu

A few days ago, my Ubuntu can't hibernate. When I choose hibernate, what I got is just blank screen. I didn't know exactly why it happened, but I know the solution :)

USWSUSP Tool
The only you need is this tool, get it by:

sudo apt-get install uswsusp

To suspend your Ubuntu:
sudo s2ram

If it doesn't work:
sudo s2ram --force

To hibernate your Ubuntu:
sudo s2disk

As that simple, right? :)

[How To] Recover Ubuntu After Installing Windows

I've used this method on my Ubuntu and worker. Please note that I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with GRUB2.
Using Ubuntu LIVE CD
Boot your computer into Live Session. Mount your Ubuntu partition you want to be recovered from Places menu. If you have multiple Ubuntu partition (i.e. /home /boot etc), you need to mount /boot partition.

Simplest Way To Convert *.mp3 Format To *.aac Using Ubuntu

Yesterday I just bought a "second hand" iPod Suffle 1st Generation. Obsolete, but it's my first gadget from that I have :)
Because iPod can play audio files with *.mp3 and *.m4a format, and then how to convert audio files from *.mp3 to *.m4a since *.m4a is the most common format used today?
Just use Nautilus Script Audio Converter, very simple! Run this command to install it:

How To Set Grub 2 Password Protection

Few days ago after I've posted post "How To Reset Forgotten Ubuntu Password", someone ask me (or maybe not ask but give an opinion) about the security of Linux (we all know, "security" is one of the majority feature that Linux offered to us). How about the security if we can reset the root password as easy as that my post said.
After that, I think about that. And I haven't found the answer until now. But, I've got this useful tutorial from Ubuntu Forum. How we can set password protection to our GRUB

How To Reset Windows Password Using Ubuntu

I have a funny experience. Few days ago, my senior (at my office) ask me to change his computer password (Windows XP Professional). He said, "...please tell me how to change my password. Just tell me the way and I'll change the password by myself...". When I asked him the reason, his answer is "...so you can't use my computer anymore..." :D
Yesterday, he called me. "...panoet, do you know my new password?..." and of course "NO" is my answer. "...Why you ask to me? Yesterday you've changed your password. Right?...". Guess, what his answer?
"I've forgotten my new password!"! LOL, I think. Yesterday you want to change your password so I can't use your computer and know you ask me the password because you've forgotten your new password. Is it sounds silly, right?
Have you ever experienced anything like that? Lost your Windows password? If you have, how to fix that?

Jose Chess Game

Looking for a good chess game software? I have a suggestion for you, Jose!
Jose, a chess software. In my opinion, this is the best chess software that I use on my computer. Created using JAVA programming language, so it can run in any OS that has Java Runtime Environment installed.

Features

  • graphical frontend to MySQL database
  • read and write PGN (Portable Game Notations) files
  • 2D and 3D view
  • edit games, insert comments, variations
  • plug-in chess engine for play and analysis; supports both XBoard and UCI protocol.
  • Play Fischer Random Chess / Chess 960, or Shuffle Chess
  • Opening Books
  • ECO opening classification
  • Position Search
  • Create HTML and PDF files.
  • Web Servlet interface
You can download Jose here. There are also many other additional downloads such as sample databases, opening books, bonus textures and sound files.
Another excellent feature on Jose, you can install other chess engines as plug-in. Jose is packaged with the Toga and Spike chess engines. However, there is a huge number of freely available-and commercial-engines that also can be used with jose.
My last suggestion, for you who love the game of chess must try this software.

Use Gnokii As Phone Manager On Linux OS

In the Linux OS (especially Ubuntu because I use this distro), most modems on the market can be directly used without requiring a complicated installation, plug and play. So also applies to most mobile phones that have features of a modem. With this simplicity, we can easily enjoy internet services from telecommunication service providers that we use.
But there is one problem, sometimes when we want to manage our sms (sending, receiving, etc.), phone book or anything on the modem that we use (for example, in this case we use the phone as a modem). This becomes a problem of its own in the Linux OS because Linux does not provide the "interface" for doing the things mentioned above. Unlike the Windows OS, which normally provides (in the sense provided by the manufacturer of the hardware itself, not from the Microsoft) special programs for the hardware that we use as a modem. Which point to use all the features in the hardware and the program usually come included in the purchase. This is why most modems can not be directly used in the Windows OS, because Windows OS does not directly include common drivers used by many modems on the market.

Is there a solution?

The answer is YES! Gnokii is the answer. Gnokii allows you to communicate with the phone over the serial cable connection, usb connection (support depends mostly on the operating system level support), infrared connection and bluetooth connection.
Gnokii provides many functionality of different areas for user to manipulate mobile phone.
You can send SMS, receive them and save them in the phone. Gnokii supports delivery reports, picture messages (Nokia own protocol), concatenated messages, wap pushes, unicode messsages. Gnokii allows you to send and receive logos and ringtones over SMS.
